Insurance Tips for Guest Houses and B & B Establishments
Always Have Cover When You Have a Home Business
When you run a business from home it is important that you are covered for all or any eventualities.
Optional cover for guesthouses and B & B establishments is usually available only if the guesthouse is run from your home or residence.
Some insurance companies offer optional cover for guesthouses as part of the household contents insurance policy, but this is normally the case if the guesthouse is run from your home or place of residence.
The insurance cover for this purpose is normally limited to the personal property of the guests and is also limited to the personal liability of the holder of the insurance policy.
Guesthouses and B & B establishments are then fully covered should something happen to their guests while staying on the property; for example in the instance of contracting an illness, get food poisoning or slip and fall and are injured in any other way on your property while residing there.
In order to qualify for a grading by the Tourism Grading Council of SA, you have to have liability insurance to be graded by the industry.
In any event, it would not be wise to have this type of establishment without the correct cover.
